Have you ever heard of a school that started with just 386 students and a handful of teachers? This is the story of SMK USJ 13, right here in Subang Jaya. SMK USJ 13 began its journey in June 2000. It was a momentous occasion, marked by the handover of the school building to the first principal, Datin Hajah Robiah binti Haji Abd Hamid. The school’s location in the southern part of Subang Jaya, surrounded by residential areas, makes it an ideal place for learning. Initially, SMK USJ 13 served students from nearby schools like SMK Subang Utama, SMK Subang Jaya, SMK SS 17, and SMK Seafield. The school started with only 25 teachers and two support staff. By 2009, SMK USJ 13 had grown to accommodate 1543 students and 95 teachers. The rapid development of the surrounding area led to a surge in enrollment. By October 2011, the student population reached 1511, with 91 teachers and 12 support staff managing 42 classes. This growth necessitated the introduction of a double-shift system starting in 2006, with morning and afternoon sessions. The school’s motto, “Berusaha, Berilmu, Beramal,” meaning “Strive, Knowledgeable, Practice,” reflects its commitment to holistic education. SMK USJ 13’s vision evolved over time. It began with a focus on balanced individual excellence and school community harmony. Later, it shifted to achieving excellence by 2010, with strategic plans emphasizing management, curriculum, co-curricular activities, student affairs, human capital, physical environment, ICT development, and external relations. SMK USJ 13 even represented Selangor in the Saujana Leap School Award for Sports and Games. The students of SMK USJ 13 are known as the “Thirteenians.” Their achievements include winning the Taylor’s Business School 10th Accounting Quiz and the state-level first aid competition in 2023. The school song embodies their values, emphasizing effort, knowledge, practice, discipline, respect for teachers, and harmony among friends. SMK USJ 13 continues to grow and evolve, dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals and contributing to the community.
