Slubice wasn’t always Polish. For much of its existence it was part of Frankfurt an der Oder. Known then as Dammvorstadt it formed a suburb. The Oder River a natural border. It separated the two communities until 1945. The Oder-Neisse line redrew the map. It divided Frankfurt and its Dammvorstadt forever.

Today Slubice is a vibrant Polish town. It shares a unique bond with Frankfurt. The two cities collaborate. They work together on projects like a wastewater treatment plant. They also share the Collegium Polonicum. This is an extension of the Viadrina European University. It sits on the Polish side of the border. A testament to their enduring connection.
