Hidden within the vibrant tapestry of Saint Petersburg’s theatrical scene is the Skorohod Theatre Platform. This platform isn’t just a stage. It’s a testament to a playwright deeply intertwined with the city’s artistic soul. Natalia Skorokhod, born and bred in Saint Petersburg, breathes life into the Skorohod Theatre Platform with her compelling narratives. Educated at the esteemed State Theatre Academy of St. Petersburg, Skorokhod’s journey has come full circle. She now imparts her wisdom and passion for drama to aspiring actors within the same hallowed halls, as well as at the University of Culture & Art. Since 1986, the Skorohod Theatre Platform, and stages beyond, have resonated with the echoes of her over twenty plays. Her works have transcended geographical boundaries, captivating audiences not only in Russia, but also internationally in countries like Switzerland and Slovakia. Skorokhod’s creative prowess extends beyond the stage. She has also crafted eight screenplays, further solidifying her reputation as a prolific storyteller. Her dedication to her craft has garnered numerous accolades, including prestigious awards at the all-Russian festival and competition, Russian History Memory. In 2006, she clinched first prize for the “Best Fiction Script,” followed by a jury prize in 2009. Her insights and analyses on film and theatre have graced the pages of over 100 publications. Her words have illuminated the pages of prominent Russian magazines like TEATR (Moscow), TEATRALNAYA (Moscow), and PETERBURGSKI TEATRALNIJ ZHURNAL (St. Petersburg), as well as international publications. Beyond her personal artistic contributions, Skorokhod has also dedicated herself to nurturing the next generation of theatrical talent. As an advisor for Arlekin 2010, the Russian children and youth theater festival, she continues to shape the future of Russian theatre. So, as you stand before the Skorohod Theatre Platform, remember that it represents more than just a physical space. It’s a living embodiment of Natalia Skorokhod’s artistic vision and her enduring legacy within Saint Petersburg’s vibrant cultural landscape.
