High in the Salzburger Land, adventure awaits at Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee. This family-friendly ski area promises well-groomed slopes. It is perfect for all skill levels.

Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee is south of Salzburg. It sits in the Osterhorngruppe. The area includes parts of Krispl and Hintersee.

Once upon a time, Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee was a bustling hub. In 1977, Gaißau and Hintersee linked. Hintersee installed Salzburg’s first three-seater chairlift.

In 2010, Bergbahnen Saalbach Hinterglemm Ges.m.b.H. sold the ski area. They cited needed investments as the reason. A Chinese majority owner took over in late 2016. The ski area already faced financial difficulties.

But hardship struck. On January 13, 2017, the operating company declared bankruptcy. Yet, Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee kept running through the 2016/17 season. A bankruptcy plan was set for the end of 2019. Local communities wanted to save it with support from Salzburg.

The resort was revived in January 2021. But, trouble brewed again.

In September 2022, a dramatic event unfolded. Residents stopped a piste basher being moved at night. It turned out the removal was legal. The basher belonged to a leasing firm. The lift company’s assets were too small. They could not cover insolvency costs.

Today, Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee offers varied terrain. The resort spans from 750 meters to 1567 meters. Eight lift systems serve the area. Ski lifts include the 2-SL Spielbergalm. There is also the 3-SL Hintersee. Don’t forget the 4-SL Latschenalm. The Spielbergalmlift is also a key part. You can also take the Spielbergalm Übungslift. The Wieserhörndllift is another option. The Kurvenlift and Anzenbergalmlift are available. Finally, there is the Anzenbergalm Übungslift.

Thirty kilometers of prepared pistes await. They cater to all difficulty levels. These slopes wind down the mountainsides of Gaißau and Hintersee. Eight ski huts dot the area. They offer sunny terraces for relaxation. Three ski rentals and two ski schools serve visitors at the valley stations.

Freestylers once loved the BoardshopPark. Numerous events and jam sessions occurred there. Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee was an insider’s tip.

The Spielbergalm is a recreation area in Gaißau. It lies in the municipality of Krispl. It is in the Salzburger Land. You can reach the Spielbergalm via the Spielbergalm toll road. Mountain bike routes are also available. Hiking trails lead from Gaißau, Vordersee, and Hintersee to the Alm. From the Alm, you can walk to the Spielberg. You can also reach the Wieserhörndl. In winter, the Alm is popular with ski tourers.

Skigebiet Gaißau-Hintersee has faced many challenges. But it remains a beautiful spot. Its slopes and views are unforgettable. Take a moment to remember its peaks and valleys.
