Opened in 1997, SK Desa Setapak stands as a beacon of learning. This school got its name from Taman Desa Setapak. This housing area sits right in front of the school.

Let’s delve into the story of SK Desa Setapak. Puan Che Nah bt. Omar was the first Guru Besar. She led a small team. There were only four academic teachers. Two staff members provided support. Many teachers were fresh out of college. It was their first teaching job.

Initially, SK Desa Setapak drew students from nearby schools. The first year saw only 423 students. The school started with six Year 1 classes. Years 2 to 5 each had two classes. Year 6 had just one class.

SK Desa Setapak also provides for special needs students. The Kelas Khas Bermasalah Pembelajaran or KKBP is available here. Pn. Zizawati bt. Fauzi coordinates the KKBP. Other teachers help her.

SK Desa Setapak’s lencana or crest has special meaning. The atom represents science and technology. The star stands for the Rukun Negara. This is a guide for all Malaysians no matter their religion. The suria or torch shows that knowledge lights up life. The perisai or shield defends against life’s challenges. The reben or ribbon connects students with knowledge, religion, and duty. It also connects them with this world and the afterlife. The jalur menjulang symbolizes striving for excellence. The gelung shows the school’s fitness in studies and sports. A fit body creates a sharp mind.

The colors on the crest also hold meaning. Green represents Islam as the country’s official religion. Yellow means happiness and prosperity. It also stands for sincerity, loyalty, dedication, and trust. Red symbolizes courage. It shows determination when facing challenges.

Prasekolah SKDS opened in January 2003. Datin Kamaliah Binti Abd. Latif was the Guru Besar then. The prasekolah began with one class of 25 students. A guru and an assistant were in charge. The class was named Prasekolah Orkid. In 2012, Encik Zainal Bin Hj. Ahmad was the Guru Besar. Pn. Sabiha binti Salman and Pn. Noor Sheilla binti Zainal managed Prasekolah SKDS.

The vision of Prasekolah Orkid is clear. They want to create excellent, bright, and moral students.
