SJK(C) Taman Connaught is a Government Chinese Primary School. SJK(C) is short for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina. This means Government Chinese Primary School in Malay.

In 1985, the Minister of Education approved its construction. Abdullah Badawi approved a Chinese primary school in Cheras. He was a former Prime Minister of Malaysia. It was codenamed SJK(C) Taman Connaught.

Construction began in 1988. It was built on a 3.5-acre plot in Cheras. The school had sixteen classrooms.

SJK(C) Taman Connaught officially opened in December 1989. There were 683 students and twenty teachers. Zhang Shi Lu was the first headperson. Dato’ Liu Qin Tuan PJK was the CEO. Weng Quan Bo led the teachers and parents association.

In 1992, the former canteen was rebuilt into four classrooms. A new canteen was built. The school also gained a basketball court. A reading corner and car parking place were added. The school roll increased to 1700 students. There were thirty six classrooms.

SJK(C) Taman Connaught was specified as a class ‘A’ school in 1994. The headteacher Zhang Shi Lu retired. Guan Hui Min became the next headteacher.

The Ministry of Education allocated funds in 1995. The funds were for a new science laboratory. A new workshop was also planned.

The community donated RM 400 000 in 1996. This was to build a new big hall.

The new big hall was completed in 1997. Headteacher Guan Hui Min moved to SJK(C) Lai Meng. Lai Mu Lan replaced her.

A new four-story building was constructed in 1999. It had fifteen classrooms. The school now had 2300 students. They were spread across forty-seven classrooms. The school was renovated. The teachers’ office was expanded. The science laboratory and music room were expanded too. The computer room and auditorium were enlarged. The counseling room, dental room, and library were also expanded. The administration office got bigger too.

By 2012, SJK(C) Taman Connaught had fifty-four classes. It had over fifty classrooms.

Today, SJK(C) Taman Connaught continues to thrive. It is a school with a rich history. It is dedicated to providing quality education. The school has a large enrollment of 2060 students. Ninety teachers are dedicated to the students.
