Did you know that SJK Pei Hwa 2 shares a legacy with a school founded in 1929? It is a story of resilience and dedication to Chinese education. Let’s uncover the captivating story of SJK Pei Hwa 2 and its enduring impact.

Pei Hwa High School was established in 1929. Cai Jing San, Zheng Qing Mou and others were instrumental in its founding. The school aimed to provide education in the Chinese language. It stood apart from Malaysia’s national school system. As an independent school, SJK Pei Hwa 2 relies on student fees and public donations.

The school faced a temporary closure during the Japanese occupation in 1942. All school equipment was sadly destroyed. However, classes resumed in 1946, demonstrating the community’s commitment to education.

In 1947, upper primary classes were introduced. By 1958, student numbers exceeded 1,000. Primary and secondary schools had to operate in double shifts due to a lack of facilities. The primary school then moved to its present location. It was renamed Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Pei Hwa.

Under the Education Act 1961, the school was reformed into Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Pei Hwa. The council decided to continue providing mother-tongue education. Pei Hwa High School was soon reformed.

The school faced economic challenges and a lack of its own campus. In 1971, a piece of land was donated for school construction. The school moved to its current location in 1975. At that time, the school had only 46 students.

Student numbers rose to 717 by 1987. Computer classes were introduced with the growth of information technology. SJK Pei Hwa 2 became the first to establish furniture-carpentry courses in 1989.

From 1996 to 1999, carpentry class students excelled in The Malaysia Skills Competition. They won Prime Minister’s Golden Hands Awards for four years consecutively. In 1999, students even represented Malaysia at The 35th WorldSkills International Competition in Montreal, Canada. Unfortunately, the carpentry class was suspended in 2001 due to financial constraints. Science classes were reopened in 2001.

On July 28, 2008, SJK Pei Hwa 2 signed a sister school agreement with Tsun Jin High School. In 2012, another agreement followed with Chung Chou University of Science and Technology.

SJK Pei Hwa 2’s facilities include a New Teaching Building inaugurated in 2004. It features classrooms and an AVA room. The L-Shaped Building completed in 1980 includes classrooms, offices, and a science laboratory. An Indoor Sports Hall was completed in 1989. It includes basketball and badminton courts. Other facilities include the Wang Zha Mo Lecture Theatre and the Cai Ming Fu E-library.

The school motto emphasizes propriety, righteousness, incorruptibility, and a sense of shame. These values shape the students’ character. SJK Pei Hwa 2 also holds various events like the Chinese New Year Celebration. The school also holds a School Sport Meet. These events enrich the school experience.

From its humble beginnings to its present-day achievements, SJK Pei Hwa 2 has remained committed to providing quality education and preserving Chinese culture. As China becomes stronger, the status of Chinese language is rising and the number of the school is increasing also. The school’s journey is a testament to the enduring spirit of its founders and the community it serves.
