In 1985 a dream took shape. A new Chinese primary school was approved for Cheras. This was SJK(C) Taman Connaught. It wouldn’t be just another school. It would be a beacon of education.

SJK(C) Taman Connaught began its journey. Sixteen classrooms rose on a 3.5-acre plot. This was in 1988. Construction was completed in 1989. The school opened its doors to 683 eager students. Twenty dedicated teachers guided them. Zhang Shi Lu became the first headmaster. Dato’ Liu Qin Tuan PJK led as CEO. Weng Quan Bo headed the teachers and parents association.

The school thrived. Its growth was rapid. By 1992 the student body had exploded to 1700. Thirty-six classrooms filled with the sounds of learning. A new canteen basketball court and parking lot emerged. The old canteen was transformed into four more classrooms.

In 1994 SJK(C) Taman Connaught received prestigious recognition. It was designated a Class A school. This is a significant achievement for a school. Zhang Shi Lu retired. Guan Hui Min took the helm.

The school continued to expand. The Malaysian Ministry of Education invested heavily. A new science lab and workshop were built. In 1996 the community rallied. They donated RM 400,000 for a magnificent new hall. It was completed in 1997. Guan Hui Min moved on. Lai Mu Lan became the new headteacher.

The school wasn’t done growing. A four-story fifteen-classroom building rose in 1999. The student population reached 2300. Forty-seven classrooms bustled with activity. Renovations modernized the school. The teachers’ office science lab music room computer room auditorium counseling room dental room library and administration office were all significantly enlarged.

By 2012 SJK(C) Taman Connaught boasted 54 classes and over 50 classrooms. It had become a cornerstone of the Cheras community. This is a testament to the dedication of those who built it and those who learn within its walls. It was a testament to a vision realized. A school that started as a dream became a reality a powerful symbol of education and community spirit.
