Did you know Sishui gets its name from the meeting of four local streams? These streams shape not only the landscape but also the very identity of this place. We are standing in Sishui Township, a unique corner of Longsheng Various Nationalities Autonomous County in Guangxi, China.
Sishui is home to about 13000 people. This township is not just a place on the map, it is a vibrant community. The four streams are Zhailong Stream, Yandi Stream, Pannei Stream, and Yitan Stream. They converge here giving Sishui its distinctive name. Imagine the ancient people settling here drawn to the confluence of these waters.
In the Qing dynasty Sishui was part of the Dongtuan area. In 1933 Sishui officially became a township. Later in 1961 it briefly became the Sishui Commune. But the following year it returned to being Sishui Township. The name Sishui carries history.
Sishui is divided into nine villages each with its own character. Consider Zhoujia village and Pannei village. They were honored on June 6 2019. They are now on the list of Traditional Villages in China. This recognition highlights the cultural significance of Sishui.
Geographically Sishui sits in the northeastern part of Longsheng County. It is surrounded by other townships like Madi and Weijiang. The landscape here varies dramatically. Mount Fupingbao is the highest point. It rises to 1916 meters. Paifang is the lowest point at 225 meters. The Sang River flows through Sishui adding to its natural beauty.
