Did you know that Sindorim High School in Seoul didn’t always exist? Before 2008 the Shindorim district lacked a high school. Residents yearned for one. Imagine the challenge of building a school that met their high expectations. Principal Oh Se-chang and his team faced a monumental task. They worked tirelessly in a makeshift office many nights past midnight. They prepared for the school’s opening. Sindorim High School opened its doors. The school faced typical growing pains. Around 40 out of 250 students initially refused to attend. Principal Oh personally called each student and their parents. He offered new books as gifts. Most changed their minds. Some chose schools in nearby Mok-dong. This incident shocked Principal Oh. He realized he needed a new strategy. He needed to promote Sindorim High School. He visited middle schools in Mok-dong. He held sessions for parents explaining the curriculum. These sessions even included nighttime sessions for working parents. More than 200 parents attended these nighttime sessions. The school’s unique approach worked. Word of mouth spread. Small groups of middle school students visited Sindorim High School. Teachers volunteered to give tours. Within ten days 500 students visited. The school’s application rate soared to 17:1. This was far beyond their initial expectation of 3:1. Sindorim High School’s success story shows how dedication and a proactive approach can overcome challenges. It’s a testament to the power of community and the unwavering commitment of its leadership. It’s a school built on a foundation of hope determination and success. Today Sindorim High School stands as a beacon of educational excellence in Seoul.
