Is this where legends collide? We’re standing at the heart of Silvares, Pias, Nogueira e Alvarenga. This parish, formed relatively recently in 2013, is a union of four unique communities in the municipality of Lousada. Each had its own story before merging into what we see today. Imagine the weight of history beneath our feet. The name itself – Silvares, Pias, Nogueira e Alvarenga – speaks to the rich tapestry of this place. Step back in time with me, to a time when these villages thrived individually. Picture the clash between Silvares and Idães, a neighboring parish, over a statue of Nossa Senhora. The statue, found on a hill between the two, seemingly vanished from Silvares’ church only to reappear in Idães. This sparked a struggle, with the statue changing hands multiple times, as if guided by unseen forces. Eventually, the people of Silvares, understanding the statue’s will, built a chapel for her. They even promised to carry her in procession to Idães annually, a testament to the enduring power of faith and local lore. Silvares, Pias, Nogueira e Alvarenga whispers tales of rivalries, devotion, and a past that continues to shape its present.
