The SIC Garzaia del Mortone is a quiet place. It’s hard to imagine that this small area protects 39 species of animals and 3 different habitat types. The Garzaia del Mortone was declared a site of Community Importance in June 1995 to protect many endangered species. It is a Special Area of Conservation, a European Union designation. Many bird species are protected here, including the Eurasian Sparrowhawk, the Great Reed Warbler, the Marsh Warbler, and the Reed Warbler. There are also other animals protected here, including the European Common Frog and the Greater Mouse-eared Bat. It is located near the Italian village of Zelo Buon Persico in a region called Lombardia. It is a protected area where many species of plants and animals thrive in harmony. It is a testament to human efforts and a reminder of the rich biodiversity present in Italy.
