Si Sunthon is part of Phuket’s rich history. We are standing at the Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon Monument. This landmark honors two legendary sisters. They bravely defended Phuket against invaders in the 18th century.

These weren’t just any women. They were local heroines. The sisters led the defense against a Burmese attack in 1785. A British East India Company captain saw Burmese forces preparing to attack. He notified the local administration. Than Phu Ying Chan and her sister Mook stepped up. They assembled local forces.

For a month, they withstood a siege. Finally, on March 13, 1785, the Burmese retreated. King Rama I was grateful. He gave the sisters royal titles. Than Phu Ying Chan became Thao Thep Kasattri. Mook became Thao Si Sunthon.

Look at these stunning sculptures. They capture the sisters’ bravery. The monument stands in beautifully landscaped gardens. Take a moment to relax. Soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Notice the artistry. Photographers love to capture the essence of Phuket’s heritage here. Pathways invite you to explore. Reflect on the sisters’ sacrifices.

Visiting this monument is free. It is open all day. Informative plaques tell the sisters’ story. Consider visiting early or late in the day. It is cooler and less crowded then.

This monument is more than statues. It is a reminder of Phuket’s resilience. The sisters’ courage continues to inspire. They remind us of strength. They embody the spirit of this island. They defended Si Sunthon.
