Shyambazar Nabin Sangha is a vibrant part of Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations. It is officially known as Shyambazar Nabin Sangha Durga Puja. The Shyambazar Nabin Sangha was established in 1968. For nearly six decades this Puja has been a local highlight. It is located at 192/1 Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road. You can find it opposite the Shyambazar CESC Office.
In 2019, the Puja committee chose “Nostalgia” as its theme. Satyaki Sur was the theme maker. Sanatan Paul created the Durga idol. Arnapurna Decorator handled decorations. Deep Electric took care of the lighting. The Khuti Puja was held on 11 Aug 2019. The opening ceremony occurred on 01 Oct 2019. The immersion took place on 10 Oct 2019. Around 5000 people visited. The budget was 700,000.
Sadhan Pandey was the chairman. Atin Ghosh was the vice-chairman. Sunit Kr. Mondal acted as president. Kesto Mohan Ghosal was the secretary. Kaushik Banerjee was the treasurer.
Shyambazar itself is a historic Kolkata neighborhood. Sobharam Basak gave Shyambazar its name. He honored his Kuladevata Shyam-rai. Shyambazar’s five-point crossing is very busy. A statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose stands there.
