The story of Shri Paramhans Advait Mandir traces back to Shri Swami Advaitanand Ji Maharaj, also known as Paramhans Dyal Ji Maharaj, born in 1846. He laid the foundation for Advait Mat, a cluster of panths or groups of disciples across Northern India.
Shri Paramhans Dyal Ji Maharaj appointed Swami Swarupanand Ji Maharaj as his spiritual successor. Swami Swarupanand Ji Maharaj established over 300 ashrams. His mission was to spread his master’s teachings far and wide. Many of his disciples furthered this mission. They established spiritual institutions and spread the same knowledge. These ashrams, originally named Krishna Dwaras, evolved into various centers. Adwait-Swarup Ashram and Paramhans Satyarthi Dham are examples of the expanded network.
The gurus of Shri Paramhans Advait Mat include a lineage of spiritual leaders. Shri Swami Advaitanand Ji Maharaj was the first. Born in 1846, he passed away in 1919. His successor, Shri Swarupanand Ji Maharaj, acceded in 1919 and died in 1936. Following him were Shri Swami Vairagyanand Ji Maharaj, Shri Swami Beantanand Ji Maharaj, Shri Swami Darshan Poornanand Ji Maharaj and Shri Swami Vichar Poornanand Ji Maharaj.
The largest organization is Shri Anandpur Dham. It is located in Nethai, Madhya Pradesh. This main spiritual center comprises many smaller trusts in nearby areas. Anandpur Dham is the home of the current spiritual master. Other related organizations include Shri Anandpur Satsang Ashram. Sar Shabd Mission and Shri Anandpur Ashram in Hakkal, Jammu are also related.
