A towering 120-foot Gopuram pierces the Mumbai skyline. This marks the location of the Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir. Attached to the Dahisar Sri Kashi Math, this temple is a vibrant testament to tradition and modern architecture. The Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir is more than just a building. It embodies centuries of culture and devotion.
The Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir’s story began on May 25th, 2003. It was inaugurated by Param Poojya H. H. Shrimad Sudhindra Tirtha Swami. He dedicated it to the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra. This was a gesture of gratitude for their support of the G S B Community.
Inside the Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir, you will find life-size idols of Sri Vittal Rakhumai. These monolithic figures are carved from black granite. The sculptor, Shri Ranjal Radha Madhav Shenoy, came from a family of renowned artists.
Interestingly, the Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir also houses smaller idols of Sri Vittal Rakhumai. They are made of five metals: gold, silver, brass, bronze, and copper. These were a gift from the trustee of the Sri Vitthal Rakhumai Temple of Pandarpur. These metal idols are treated as Utsava Moorties. They receive Trikala Pooja every day.
The Utsava Moorties are paraded in a decorated palanquin during important festivals. These include Uthan Dwadashi and Kartik Poornima. The most spectacular event is the Rathayatra. During this festival, the Utsava Moorties ride a 41-foot Brahma Ratha. Devotees gather to offer coconuts, fruits, and prayers.
The Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir celebrates many festivals. Gudi Padva and Vaishakh Poornima are significant. The Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir also observes Ashadhi Ekadashi and Sri Krishna Janmasthami.
Beyond daily rituals, the Shree Vithal Rakhumai Mandir engages the community through a spiritual camp for children. This camp imparts knowledge of Hindu customs, traditions, and culture. Children learn shlokas, practice public speaking, and develop good behavior.
Mata Sharada Nilaya, a museum on the fourth floor, holds artifacts of past Swamis. It preserves the history of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan. This museum displays objects associated with rituals. It offers insights into the traditions of the Gowd Saraswat Brahmans.
