Why is the Shiv Hanuman Mandir called “Khole Ke Hanuman Ji”? We’re standing before the Shiv Hanuman Mandir, a vibrant hub of devotion just outside Jaipur. But it wasn’t always this grand complex. The Shiv Hanuman Mandir, also known as Khole Ke Hanuman Ji, began humbly in the 1960s. Pandit Radhe Lal Choubey discovered a large Hanuman idol on Lakshman Dungri hill, part of the Aravalli range. This area, then uninhabited, channeled rainwater from the mountains, creating a natural “khol” or basin. This is the origin of the temple’s unique name, Khole Ke Hanuman Ji. Initially, the temple was small, less than 100 square feet. Pandit Choubey, driven by his devotion, established the Narwar Ashram Seva Samiti in 1961 to develop the temple. Today, the Shiv Hanuman Mandir has expanded dramatically. The temple is a magnificent three-story structure, built in an ancient fort style, with a large open square in front. Inside, alongside the magnificent Hanuman idol, you’ll find separate shrines dedicated to Rama, Krishna, Ganesha, Gayatri, and Valmiki. Notice the intricate paintings adorning the walls and the colorful glasswork. These artistic touches add to the temple’s splendor. To the right of the entrance, you’ll see the marble mausoleum of Pandit Radhe Lal Choubey, a testament to his vision and dedication. The Shiv Hanuman Mandir is not just a place of worship, but a community center. It’s famous for its “Sawamani Prasad”, a large offering of food to Hanuman, often hosted for special occasions. The temple has numerous kitchens capable of serving thousands of visitors. This generosity is one of the reasons for its immense popularity. In 2023, a ropeway was added, connecting the Annapurna Mata Temple to the Vaishno Mata Temple on a nearby hilltop. This modern addition allows devotees and tourists to experience the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. Every year, the temple hosts a lively fair during Govardhan Puja (Annkoot), attracting countless devotees.
