It’s a journey into the heart of a South Pacific island adventure. Shipwreck Rapids opened on May 29, 1999, inviting guests to navigate a thrilling river rapids ride. The Shipwreck Island area sets the scene. It’s designed as a South Pacific island littered with the remnants of shipwrecks. Four stranded vessels, the Implausible, RMS Royal Star, Wholly Mackerel, and Dream Boat II, add to the immersive experience. The rafts themselves are yellow and white, each holding up to nine adventurers. As you embark on Shipwreck Rapids, you’ll board from a rotating platform, securing yourself with a seatbelt. The journey begins calmly. Then, the current picks up, swirling you into the first set of rapids. You’ll plunge under a dripping cargo net and navigate more churning water. The adventure continues past a sea turtle exhibit, offering a moment of tranquility amidst the excitement. Be prepared to get soaked. Water cannons, operated by mischievous onlookers, line the route. A whimsical touch is the piano hanging from a wrecked boat. It occasionally serenades riders with music while showering them with water. The grand finale of Shipwreck Rapids is a thrilling drop between cascading waterfalls. You’ll then pass under the Shipwreck Reef Cafe before entering a dimly lit cave for the final, exhilarating rapid. Emerging from the cave, you’ll ascend a chain lift, passing the glowing boilers of a sunken ship, before returning to the station.
