“Stone Buddha Encampment”. Shifoying’s name echoes through time. Let’s uncover the story of Shifoying in Beijing.

Shifoying began as a village on Beijing’s eastern outskirts. Imagine an ancient monastery nestled here. This monastery housed a revered stone buddha. The village adopted its name from this sacred statue. Thus, Shifoying which literally translates to Stone Buddha Encampment was born.

Fast forward to 1933. Shifoying Village appears on the Beiping Atlas. After 1949, new changes arrived. Shifoying merged with Banqiao Village creating a larger community.

The year 1987 marked a new chapter for Shifoying. It became part of Chaoyang District’s Balizhuang Subdistrict. Transformation accelerated in 1990. Shifoying began its development into a modern residential area. High-rise apartment buildings started dotting the landscape.

By 2001, Beijing’s growth fully enveloped Shifoying. The completion of the Fifth Ring Road marked this milestone. Shifoying was now firmly within the expanding metropolis.

Today, Shifoying is a vibrant residential neighborhood. Shifoying Lu divides it into two distinct areas. Shifoying Dongli or Shifoying East is home to Shifoying Primary School. Also in Shifoying Dongli, you’ll find the Chaoyang District Real Estate Title Registration Bureau.

Getting around Shifoying is easy with many bus routes. Several bus lines serve Shifoying Dongli. These include lines 408, 486, 595, 640, 675, 991 and 夜3. Shifoying Xili or Shifoying West also has good bus connections. Lines 408, 595 and 专111 run here.

For subway access, the nearest stations are currently Shilipu on Line 6 and Tuanjiehu on Line 10. But there are also plans for Line 3, with a potential stop at Shifoying in the future.

While modern apartments now dominate, echoes of Shifoying’s past linger. The name itself reminds us of the stone buddha and the ancient monastery. As you explore Shifoying, remember its journey. From a quiet village to a bustling part of Beijing. Shifoying has transformed. Yet, it carries its history within its name.
