Craving a worship experience that rocks? Welcome to Shepherd of the Hills Church. This nondenominational megachurch pulses with energy. It stands as a testament to modern faith in Los Angeles.

Shepherd of the Hills Church has a fascinating history. It began with a split. In 1977 about 300 people left the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys. They formed Faith Evangelical Church in Chatsworth. It later became the Church at Rocky Peak.

Meanwhile the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys sold its building. This was finalized in 1988 to The Church on the Way. They met in temporary venues as Shepherd of the Hills. The church joined the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1990 they bought property in Porter Ranch. A ranch-style building was finished in 1991.

But the church faced challenges. Membership declined and debt increased. Pastor Moody’s retirement was coming. They looked to merge.

Dudley Rutherford became pastor of Hillcrest Christian Church in Granada Hills in 1987. The church grew significantly. They needed more space.

In 1995 the Church at Rocky Peak declined a merger with Shepherd of the Hills. Hillcrest Christian Church agreed to merge. The Granada Hills congregation moved to Porter Ranch. They rented out their old building. Pastor Moody retired. Pastor Rutherford took over.

Shepherd of the Hills Church expanded. In 2010 it opened campuses in Porter Ranch and Woodland Hills. In 2017 a new 3500-seat auditorium opened at the main site.

Shepherd of the Hills is known for its vibrant services. A band rocks the hall. Worshippers clap and sway for Jesus. It attracts around 6000 people each week. The church emphasizes a personal relationship with God. They focus on applying faith to daily life.

The church embraces modern methods. They use Christian rock music. Lyrics and prayers appear on overhead screens. This creates a comfortable and positive experience.

The Bible is the ultimate authority. It guides Christian beliefs and living. The Holy Spirit is central. It comforts guides and advocates. People are made in God’s image. They are created to follow Jesus Christ.

Salvation is a free gift. It is provided by Jesus’ sacrifice. It is received through faith. It is available to everyone. This faith is expressed through repentance and baptism.

People are created to exist forever. They will either be with God in heaven. Or they will be eternally separated from God in hell.

Shepherd of the Hills embraces traditional values. Marriage is between one man and one woman. Sex is reserved for married couples.

Shepherd of the Hills continues to evolve. It adapts to changing times. It stays true to its core beliefs. It offers a welcoming place for all.
