“Imagine,” I say standing before the Shenzhen Museum History and Culture Museum. This isn’t just a museum. It is a portal through time. The Shenzhen Museum, founded in 1981, stands as Shenzhen’s first museum. It earned honors as a National 1st-Level Museum. It is also a National Classic Red Tourism Spot. This museum also serves as the National Social Science Popularization Base.

Shenzhen Museum comprises four distinct sites. These are the Shenzhen Museum of History and Folk Culture. Then there is the Shenzhen Museum of Ancient Art. The Dongjiang River Guerrilla Command Headquarters Memorial Museum is another site. And lastly, the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall. Together, they cover over 60,000 square meters. The museum boasts a collection of more than 40,000 cultural relics.

The Shenzhen Museum of Ancient Art opened in 1988. It was one of Shenzhen’s early cultural facilities. It carries the history of Shenzhen’s reform. This museum also holds the memories of its citizens. In 2005, it earned recognition as one of the ten “Shenzhen Reform and Opening up Historic Buildings”.

Now, let’s focus on the Shenzhen Museum of History and Folk Culture. It opened to the public in 2008. Five basic displays await us inside. “Ancient Shenzhen” unveils the city’s distant past. “Modern Shenzhen” showcases more recent history. “Shenzhen’s Reform and Opening Up History” explores this pivotal era. “Shenzhen Folk Culture” celebrates local traditions. The “World Wildlife Specimen Exhibition” adds a unique element. These exhibits trace Shenzhen’s evolution from 7000 years ago to the present day.

The Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall features “Great Tides Surge Along the Pearl River: 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up in Guangdong”. This exhibit vividly portrays Guangdong’s reform achievements. It provides a three-dimensional look at this important time.

Finally, the memorial hall of the East River Guerrilla Headquarters presents “General Ye Ting and Shenzhen”. This display highlights General Ye Ting’s military career. It shows his connection to Shenzhen during the Anti-Japanese War. The exhibit reveals Shenzhen’s difficult history during that conflict.

Each year, Shenzhen Museum presents over 30 special exhibitions. It also hosts nearly 200 educational events. These attract over 3.18 million visitors annually. The Shenzhen Museum is more than just a repository of artifacts. It is a vibrant center for learning and cultural exchange. Take a moment to appreciate the museum’s role. It preserves Shenzhen’s past. It also shapes the city’s future. Let’s step inside and begin our journey through time and culture.
