“Arouse All One’s Efforts to Make the Country Prosperous.” This is the motto of Shenzhen Experimental School. It speaks volumes about the spirit of this institution. Founded in 1985, Shenzhen Experimental School quickly rose to prominence. It became an elite school in Shenzhen and across the nation.
Shenzhen Experimental School has a rich history. It started with middle and high schools on Baihua 6th Road. The elementary school was located on Hongli Road. In 1988, a kindergarten opened on Baihua 5th Road. The school expanded in 1998. It merged with Huaqiang Middle School. This became the fourth campus. In 2001, it took over Asia Pacific International School. A boarding school was established there.
The school decided to move all high school teachers and students to the new campus in 2002. This campus became the main high school. The Baihua 6th Road campus still maintained its own high school. Jing Shiru was the school’s founding principal. He retired in 2007. Cao Yanqing succeeded him. The current principal is Zhong Jinggao.
The Shenzhen Experimental Education Group is based in Futian District. The school has six campuses. There is a high school at Guanlong Mountain in Nanshan District. All students there are boarding students. The secondary school is on Baihua 6th Road in Futian District. This is the oldest campus with middle and high schools. The junior high school is on Baihua 7th Road in Futian District. It was formerly Huaqiang Middle School. The elementary school is on Hongli Road in Futian District. The kindergarten is on Baihua 5th Road in Futian District. Finally, the Guangming Section is on Niushan Road in Guangming District. It used to be Shenzhen NO.10 Middle School.
Academics are a strong point at Shenzhen Experimental School. The high school excels in academic competitions. It is known as one of the top three schools in Shenzhen.
Sports play a big role in school life. All campuses have extensive playing fields. The Principal’s Cup is held for basketball and football. This is an annual competition among class teams. The school also organizes track and field games at Shenzhen Stadium. The school’s sports teams have achieved great success. The Boys’ Soccer Team won two Shenzhen championships. The Girls’ Soccer Team was a runner-up in Shenzhen.
Music and drama thrive at Shenzhen Experimental School. The Student Choir was founded in 1992. It won first prize at the Guiyang Chinese Choral Festival in 1995. The choir performed with the China Central Choir at Shenzhen Grand Theater. The Students Philharmonic Orchestra was set up in 1993. It has become a large orchestra. It has won many prizes in competitions. The orchestra has performed in Australia, France, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Chinese and English drama performances are held during Chinese Week and English Week.
Shenzhen Experimental School has many traditions. These traditions enhance students’ abilities. An Art Festival showcases student talent. A Science Festival features handmade creations. An annual sports competition lasts for two or three days. Students from kindergarten to high school gather at Shenzhen Stadium at the beginning of the New Year. They perform Guang Bo Chao.
Notable alumni include Laura Li, Miss Macau 2009. Sire Ma was the 2nd runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2008. Ma Qicheng was the first high school student from Shenzhen to attend Harvard.
A TV series called “Flowering Season. Rainy Season” was filmed at the school’s Baihua 6th Road campus in 1999.
