“Did you know that Shenzhen Dalang Experimental School is more than just a place of learning?” It is a vibrant hub of creativity and community. This school serves the children of migrant workers in Dalang New District. It provides elementary and middle school education.
Shenzhen Dalang Experimental School is a place where young Shenzheners thrive. They participate in many clubs. These clubs range from art to karate and debate. Students paint and dance. They help each other. They resemble students from Shenzhen Middle School.
Two weekends ago, the school collaborated on the Graffiti Festival. It partnered with Dalang New District. They created an amazing stair mural at the Youth Dream Center. Murals and graffiti now fill the schoolyard. Young Mr. Ye organized the event through the art club. He is a second-generation Shenzhener.
The students designed proposals. Seventeen groups made the cut. They came from both elementary and middle schools. The festival was full of kids being great. Shenzhen Dalang Experimental School is located in Longhua District. It is part of the urban renewal of Tanluo Village. The school is near Yangtai Mountain Forest Park. This complex has high-rise buildings. Classrooms face south and southwest. The teaching building and teacher’s dormitory form an L shape. The teacher’s dormitory is in the southeast corner. The main entrance for students is on the southwest side. The car entrance is from the northeast side. A secondary pedestrian entrance is on the north corner.
The school creates a safe and calm environment. Older and younger students have separate entrances. They meet in the central plaza. They share the canteen and indoor gym. They also share the swimming pool and multi-function room. The student library is divided into two parts. One part is for primary students. The other is for middle school students.
The design blurs the border between indoors and outdoors. It creates semi-indoor spaces. It also creates open overhead spaces. The design maximizes social spaces. These spaces are on the raised platform level. Shared student rooms are underneath. Smaller courtyards create micro-ambiances. The corridors are spaces for socialization. They are also spaces for informal education.
Classrooms are grouped in clusters. Platforms and stairs vary in form. Each node is unique. It matches different age groups’ needs. The indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, and multi-function room are on level -1. They connect visually with glass barriers. The student canteen shares a glass wall with the indoor gymnasium.
