“Art is for everyone” echoes in the grand halls of the Shenzhen Art Museum. This new venue is more than just a building. It is a testament to Shenzhen’s commitment to culture.
The Shenzhen Art Museum officially opened in Longhua District. It stands as the first of the city’s ten new cultural landmarks. Imagine art elites from China, France, South Korea, and Thailand gathering here. The grand opening ceremony marked a new era for art in Shenzhen.
Designed by German studio KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten the Shenzhen Art Museum is an architectural marvel. It integrates art exhibitions, cultural exchange, and talent training. The museum also provides public services all under one roof. It faces the Shenzhen Library’s north division, also designed by the same firm.
The Shenzhen Art Museum boasts a total construction area of 66000 square meters. Within this space lies an exhibition area of 20000 square meters. An artwork storage room occupies nearly 6200 square meters. The museum features 18 exhibition halls. A 3900-square-meter semi-outdoor area hosts sculpture exhibitions. Lecture halls, an art book reading room, and an art-themed restaurant enrich the visitor experience.
Compared to older museums the Shenzhen Art Museum features a sophisticated design and cutting-edge equipment. This allows it to accommodate various exhibitions. The first floor hall spans 13.9 meters high. It is equipped with movable hydraulic display walls. This creates flexible spaces for different exhibitions. The second floor showcases a 3900-square-meter semi-outdoor sculpture exhibition hall. It is an ideal venue for large-scale sculptures. The third floor uses professional light film. This creates a natural lighting environment for artwork appreciation. The fourth floor meets the requirements for displaying precious collections. Constant temperature and humidity are maintained here.
The storage room is equipped with an electric intelligent management system. A tailor-made environment monitoring system tracks temperature, humidity, and light. It also monitors ultraviolet rays, CO2, and formaldehyde. Early warnings are sent via WeChat, text message, telephone, and alarms.
Since its trial operation the Shenzhen Art Museum has welcomed thousands of visitors. Admission requires reservations via the museum’s official WeChat account.
The old Shenzhen Art Museum was established in 1976 in Donghu Park. In 1987 it was renamed Shenzhen Art Museum.
A large installation woven with red yarn graces the roof. It is a work by artist Shiota Chiharu. This is part of the exhibition “Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles.” This exhibition captures Shiota’s experience and views of life and death.
Step inside the Shenzhen Art Museum and let art ignite your soul. Each visit promises new discoveries. It is a place where art comes to life.
