Here at Shelter Rock Church, our story began in 1943. A team from Flushing Baptist Church started this church. They wanted to reach Long Island. Can you imagine leaving the comfort of your familiar church? This small group of Christians stepped out in faith.
They began worshipping at the historic Onderdonk House. It was located on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset. More than 75 years have passed. Our community has grown since then. But this missional mentality has not disappeared. Like those first leaders, we seek to reach the unreached. We focus on incarnational life. It is more important than a comfortable one. We follow God into new communities. We bring the renewing power of the gospel.
Shelter Rock Church has multiple locations now. You can find us in Manhasset, Syosset, Westbury, and Bayside. We even have online streaming services. Each campus offers various service times. You can choose what fits your schedule best.
What can you expect when you visit Shelter Rock Church? We aim to lead people into a transforming relationship with Jesus. Our mission involves loving God. We want to know Him and worship Him. We also love all people with kindness. We want to make disciples. That means helping people live the way of Jesus.
What should you wear? Come as you are. There is no dress code at Shelter Rock Church. You will find on-site parking at our Syosset and Westbury campuses. At Manhasset, parking is one block away. It is in the municipal lots on Locust Place. Parking is free on Sundays. Bayside also offers parking one block south. It is in the municipal lot on 214th Place and 41st Avenue.
What about your kids? We have age-appropriate programs for children. These programs cater to ages six weeks through fifth grade. Kids learn about God’s Word. They participate in activities with trained staff. Middle school students can join Middle School Sundays. High school students are encouraged to participate in the main service.
Are the Shelter Rock Church facilities accessible? Our Syosset and Manhasset campuses have ramps and elevators. Westbury has a ramp into the main area. Bayside has a wheelchair platform lift.
Shelter Rock Church is deeply committed to sharing the gospel. It is the good news that God reached for us. He did this when we could not reach Him. Through Jesus Christ, God accomplished salvation. He rescued and restored us. He wants us to enjoy our new life with Him forever. The Bible proclaims this gospel. We believe it is God’s Inspired Word. It serves as our primary source of authority.
If you want to become a member of Shelter Rock Church, the process is simple. It involves taking three courses called Celebrate, Connect, Contribute. Baptism is also part of the process. You will complete an interview with a board member.
Shelter Rock Church strives for long-term stability. A positive net asset balance helps with this. Net assets are the excess of assets over liabilities.
