The resort’s price has dropped from 1.2 billion to 950 million shillings. The owner hopes for new investors. Locals like Gideon Kai lost their livelihoods. Children dropped out of school. Fishermen struggle. The beach’s beauty remains. But its glory is a memory. Efforts are underway to revive Shelly Beach. Shelly Beach Festivals showcase East African artists. Tourist police are deployed. Cleaning is planned. The hope is to restore Shelly Beach’s former charm and vibrancy. It is a vital part of Mombasa’s history. Its revival is crucial for the local economy.
