Have you ever wondered about the embodiment of Islamic architecture? Here at the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque in Abu Dhabi, also known as the Al Ain Grand Mosque, you’ll find just that. This mosque is an iconic landmark in Al Ain and throughout the UAE. It stands as a tribute to the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Sheikh Khalifa Mosque opened its doors in April 2021. Since then, visitors have been amazed by its vast dome. The dome is adorned with Quranic verses. It spans 86 meters in diameter. This impressive dome shelters the main prayer hall below.

Let’s explore further. The Sheikh Khalifa Mosque can accommodate about 20800 worshippers. This includes both indoor and outdoor spaces. The built-up section alone stretches over 15684 square meters. Four majestic minarets punctuate the skyline. Each minaret rises to 60 meters. They draw inspiration from the historic Great Mosque of Samarra.

Adjacent to this modern marvel, history whispers. There is a 1000-year-old mosque nearby. It dates back to the Islamic Golden Age. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan offered heartfelt prayers here. This happened shortly after the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque’s inauguration. This act further enhances the site’s significance.

Many consider the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque a very holy place. It attracts many tourists because of its beauty. The mosque’s architecture blends modern touches. It also features traditional Arabian influences.

Now, let’s talk about scale. This grand mosque can accommodate over 40000 people at once. The primary prayer hall is enormous. It can hold 10000 people simultaneously. This makes the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque the biggest in the UAE.

Nearly 3000 workers and 38 dedicated contractors built the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque. The design draws inspiration from Persian and Mughal monuments. This is one reason why it’s considered a unique work of art. The primary dome features beautiful Moroccan art.

Inside, you will find seven crystal chandeliers. A German company called Faustig designed them. The largest chandelier weighs about 12 tons. It’s constructed from gold and stainless steel. Imagine the sparkle.

Did you know that the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque boasts the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet? It took approximately 8 months to make. Adding the knots took a year. Stitching the whole thing required an additional 2 months. Around 1200 workers contributed to this carpet.

The northern and southern gateway towers add to the mosque’s elegance. These towers seamlessly blend Fatimid, Ottoman, and Mamluk architecture. Materials for construction came from various countries. Calligraphy and stained glass were imported from Morocco and New Zealand. Some materials were sourced from France, India, and Austria.

This grand structure covers a staggering area. It measures 12.8 million square feet. It ranks among the biggest mosques globally. The mosque uses an air-tight environment. This ensures that the flowers inside remain fresh.

The Sheikh Khalifa Mosque incorporates more than 30 different types of marble. Precious stones and gold also feature in its design. These materials came from Turkey, Pakistan, Italy, India, Greece, Germany, Egypt, and China.
