In 1967, a seed of security was planted in the Emirate of Sharjah. This seed grew into the Sharjah Police Headquarters. It stands as a testament to the vision of its founder, Khalid bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. The Sharjah Police Headquarters wasn’t built overnight. Its story is intertwined with the shifting sands of regional politics. The British, preparing to leave their base in Aden, sought stability in Sharjah. They requested Sheikh Khalid to form an organized force. This request, in November 1966, led to the appointment of a British officer, a Jordanian deputy, and 50 men. This initial group formed the nucleus of what would become the Sharjah Police Force. The official decree establishing the force came in September 1967, marking a pivotal moment in Sharjah’s history. The Sharjah Police Headquarters oversees a vast network. It reaches across the city and Emirate of Sharjah. Its jurisdiction extends to the East Coast cities of Dibba Al Hisn, Khor Fakkan, and Kalba. The organization is divided into three key units: the General Directorate of Resources and Support Services, the General Directorate of Central Operations, and the General Directorate of Police Operations. These units are overseen by the Commander in Chief and Deputy Commander in Chief. Beyond these, the Amiri Guard answers directly to the Commander in Chief. The Media and PR Department, Correctional & Punishment department, and the Police Research Centre report to the Deputy Commander in Chief. The Sharjah Police Headquarters, a symbol of order and safety, stands as a constant guardian. It protects the community and upholds the law. From its humble beginnings to its current form, it has played a vital role in Sharjah’s development. The Sharjah Police Headquarters reminds us that security is the bedrock of a thriving society.
