Founded in May 1965, Shadydale Church of God began with a vision and four families. Let’s step back to the beginning of Shadydale Church of God. These families were the Samuel A. N. Greer family, the Fred Hill family, the Arthur Carter family, and the Isom Stewart family.
The very first worship service took place in a home. It was at 9500 Lanewood Street in the home of Fred Hill. Seven adults and seventeen children gathered there.
A new convert, Ruben Medlock, offered his home for the next three weeks. His home had a larger den. It could accommodate the growing group.
A significant decision was made because of this growth. The church decided to purchase property at its current location. In June 1965, they moved into the new facility. The property had three small homes. One home became the worship center. The other homes were used as educational buildings.
The main building we see today includes a converted four-room house. Dr. Greer spent about four months completing the church sanctuary.
After Sunday worship, Dr. Greer diligently knocked on doors in the community. His efforts led to church growth. He encouraged members to get involved and witness in the community. The entire worship center, including the fellowship hall, was completed in November 1967.
Shadydale Church of God played a role in training future ministers. Visiting college students from Bay Ridge Christian College came to Shadydale Church of God. They served as interns under Dr. Greer’s leadership. Many became successful Church of God ministers and pastors. They served in local and out-of-town congregations.
Today, Shadydale Church of God continues its mission. Shadydale Church of God exists to lead people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Pastor Darius and First Lady Ingrid Miller welcome everyone to worship. Sunday School is available on their YouTube channel. Sunday Morning Worship takes place at 11:00 AM. Wednesday Night Services are on Zoom at 7:30 PM.
Shadydale Church of God is more than a church. It’s a family. As their motto says, it is the church where everybody is somebody. It offers a place to grow in faith.
