Hidden within the heart of northwest Houston, Shady Acres Baptist Church has a story to tell. A story spanning over a century, echoing with the faithful dedication of its members. Shady Acres Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of faith and community. The church’s journey began over 100 years ago on the outskirts of “The Heights” neighborhood at 2104 Bevis. The church thrived under the leadership of Pastor Jack Wood, who was called to serve in 1974. The congregation grew, and after several renovations, the church relocated to its current location at 7330 Vogel Road, originally the site of Inwood Baptist Church. Shady Acres Baptist Church continued to flourish, eventually expanding to the corner lot of Victory and Vogel. This expansion, a testament to Pastor Wood’s vision of a debt-free building, took seven years to complete. Pastor Wood instilled a deep passion for missions within the congregation, inspiring generous giving to support global outreach. This legacy continues to be a cornerstone of Shady Acres Baptist Church. Even after Pastor Wood’s passing in 1998, the church remained committed to its mission. Pastor Danny Farley, his son-in-law, took the helm in 1995. Then, in 2020, Pastor Brad Witbracht joined the Shady Acres family. Under Pastor Witbracht’s leadership, the church achieved a milestone in 2021, exceeding $1,000,000 in mission giving, surpassing their Faith Promise pledge of $800,000. In 2024, Pastor Farley stepped down, with Pastor Witbracht assuming full leadership. Pastor Farley remains an active member of the church community, continuing to contribute to its rich tapestry of faith and service.
