“Sandy Land” is what the locals call it. This is because of the soft silver sands along its shore. I am talking about the Shachang Reservoir.

Shachang Reservoir is a perfect place for fishing. It is located in the east of Shachang Village. It is downstream from the Hongmenchuan River in Miyun County. The reservoir is 20 kilometers from Miyun County.

Completed in May 1973 Shachang Reservoir holds a lot of history. Its construction involved a total of 1.605 million cubic meters of earthwork. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 21.2 million cubic meters. The normal water surface area covers 426000 square meters.

The Shachang Reservoir controls 128 square kilometers of the upper Hongmenchuan River. It features one main dam. There are also three auxiliary dams and one spillway. Two water pipelines and two power stations are part of the structure. The main dam reaches a maximum height of 47 meters. Its crest length is 230 meters. It is a concrete wide joint gravity dam.

Shachang Reservoir supplies water. It provides an average annual water supply of 14.66 million cubic meters. The reservoir also generates power. Its average annual power generation exceeds 500000 kwh. It irrigates an area of 40000 mu.

Jinding Lake is another name for Shachang Reservoir. It is surrounded by mountains. The deepest part of the reservoir reaches 35 meters. The dam stands at 47 meters high.

The lake is wide and clean. The water rises gently with the wind. Boating on the lake provides panoramic views. The surrounding scenery is calm and natural.

The fine sand along the lake bank makes it popular. The local people call this artificial lake Shachang Reservoir. The natural bathing beach has clear water and fine sand. Swimming and fishing are common activities here. The surrounding mountains are not high. Their gentle slopes have dense vegetation. Many wild birds live here.

To get to Shachang Reservoir drive over Miyun County. Take the G101 national highway for 21 km. Turn right before reaching Xiawanzi. Go straight to Dayu. You will see the reservoir soon after.

Fishing in Beijing is possible and meaningful. Shachang Reservoir offers an ideal free fishing spot. Angling can bring fun to your life. You can catch many big snakeheads and catfish.

The gentle slopes around Shachang Reservoir invite exploration. Lush vegetation adds to the scenic beauty. Wild birds find refuge in this area.

Remember the name “Shachang” means “sandy land”. The Shachang Reservoir offers a peaceful retreat. It is a place to enjoy nature. It is also a place for fishing. It is a testament to human engineering. It also harmonizes with the natural landscape.
