“Serzedelo, the name rings with a certain ancient charm.” You are probably wondering why we are here, just outside of Guimarães. Allow me to introduce you to this little village with a big history. Serzedelo, a quaint town, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, possesses a history that dates back to at least 1038. It truly embodies those characteristics. The small plaza in the heart of the village whispers tales of bygone eras, its cobblestone streets a testament to the timelessness of this place. This charming little gem is actually mentioned in documents dated 1038. The old Church of Santa Cristina de Serzedelo, built in the 12th century, is the heart of this vibrant community. It was once part of a medieval settlement called Vermoim. It’s a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture with its austere simplicity in contrast to the ornate carvings of a Romanesque church. It’s also a reminder of the importance of Serzedelo in the Portuguese world. It’s a testament to the fact that even the smallest of places can have stories that are as rich and vibrant as the larger ones. Enjoy your visit!
