Seoul Chungwoon Elementary School first opened its doors on April 1 1923. At that time it was known as Chungwoon Public Common School. It began with just 12 classes. Over time the school changed its name several times. In 1938 it became Kyungsung Chungwoon Public Simsang Elementary School. Then in 1941 it was renamed Kyungsung Chungwoon Public National School. Finally in 1996 it became Seoul Chungwoon Elementary School.
In 1976 the original wooden main building was removed. A new concrete structure was built in its place. This provided 11 classrooms for students. In 1998 the school modernized its facilities. In 2005 the school rebuilt the teacher’s office. In 2006 the health room got a modern upgrade.
The school continued to grow and evolve. In 2018 Seoul Chungwoon Elementary School opened a 병설\유치원 or attached kindergarten. As of 2023 the school had 438 students and 40 staff members. The school’s symbols include the rose its school flower and the ginkgo tree its school tree.
In March 2021 the Deputy Prime Minister of Education visited Seoul Chungwoon Elementary School. The purpose was to check on preparations for the new school year. They wanted to ensure safety measures were in place. This included disease control and at-school learning arrangements. The Deputy PM observed student temperature checks. They also encouraged faculty members. The Deputy PM also visited the attached kindergarten. They looked into infection prevention measures for the kindergarteners.
