Did you know that Seoul Air Base once held a different name? Before it became the vital airbase we see today it was known as Yeouido Air Base. This was during the time of Japanese rule in Korea. Seoul Air Base sits proudly near Seoul in South Korea. It’s more than just a military airfield. It’s a piece of history a testament to the country’s resilience and its strategic importance. The US Army’s 2nd Battalion 2nd Aviation Regiment 2nd Infantry Division also calls this base home. These soldiers operate Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawks. The Seoul ADEX a significant air show is held biennially on this very airfield. The base serves as a VIP airfield for the President of South Korea and other dignitaries. It’s a place where history meets modern technology. A seemingly small fact stands out: the construction of the Lotte World Tower. Many pilots and air traffic controllers opposed its construction. They feared it would pose a safety hazard interfering with flight paths. However after airfield modifications the 555-meter-tall skyscraper was built.
