Beneath the Malaysian sun stands Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara. It is more than just bricks and mortar. This school is a vibrant hub of learning and growth. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara opened its doors in 2003. Puan Noriyati bt. Ismail and Encik Husain bin Ayob played key roles then. They served as Penolong Kanan and Penolong Kanan Hal Ehwal Murid.
On that first day pupils from other schools came together. These schools included Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 10 Kota Damansara. Others hailed from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Medan and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Dato’ Harun. Sixty-two students attended that initial gathering.
Academically the school showed promise. The first SPM results in 2006 were impressive at 85.5%. The following year saw an increase to 91.2%. The students’ achievements in sports also brought pride to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara. Rugby football and taekwondo teams excelled.
Encik K. Sivanesen became the school’s first Pengetua in September 2003. Pn. Zurina bt Atan joined as Penolong Kanan Kokurikulum. By the end of 2003 there were 15 teachers. Five support staff members helped. The student population was 124.
Encik K. Sivanesen retired in 2006. Puan P. Vasuthevan took over as Pengetua but soon moved on. In April 2007 Pn. Hajah Salehah bt. Mohd. Amin became the third Pengetua.
By 2007 the school had grown significantly. Student numbers reached 1607. The teaching staff increased to 87. Support staff numbered 12. Due to the increase in student numbers, the school operated in two sessions. Pn. Mariyamah bt. Ali Osman was appointed as the afternoon supervisor.
Two decades later Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara transitioned to a single morning session. This change reflected a decrease in student numbers. New schools had opened nearby.
The school’s logo is rich in symbolism. It uses the letter Alif as its core concept. Alif represents a straight path in life. It also symbolizes knowledge. The logo features two ‘P’s and two ‘Alif’s. These represent school and higher education systems. The tiered ‘P’s symbolize educational excellence. The circular shape signifies Malaysia as a global education hub. Blue represents professionalism. Golden yellow represents excellence. White represents high quality education and well-rounded individuals.
The school badge also has symbolic elements. Yellow represents the monarchy. Green signifies peace and environmental friendliness. Red symbolizes courage creativity and perseverance. White stands for purity and sincerity. Black represents strength to achieve victory. An open book signifies lifelong learning. A torch symbolizes unwavering determination. A symbol of technology represents progress in science and ICT. A diamond represents valued students. Bamboo shoots represent young students who will become successful. Rice stalks symbolize a skilled community in a peaceful country.
The school flag features three colors. Green is the school’s official color. Red and yellow are Selangor state colors. These colors mirror the meanings found in the school badge.
The school song titled “Berilmu Bersusila” emphasizes unity and good values. It speaks of upholding morals and striving for excellence. The song was created by En. Bakhtiar bin Mohd.Salleh with lyrics by Pn. Noriyati bt Ismail.
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara has had several headmasters. Encik K. Sivanesen led from 2003 to 2006. Puan P. Vasuthevan served from 2006 to 2007. Puan Hjh Salehah binti Mohd Amin was head from 2007 to 2010. Puan Ranjithamalar a/p ARN Lingam from 2010 to 2017. Puan Che Mah binti Sharif from 2017 to April 2021. Puan Zainun binti Muda from April 2021 to Feb 2023. Encik Mohd Zainudin bin Mohd Zain began his service in March 2023.
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara remains committed to its motto. It is “Berilmu Bersusila” which means knowledgeable and well-mannered.
