Established with nurturing well-rounded individuals as its goal, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan has a diverse student body. Around 1436 students are taught by 126 teachers. The school’s commitment to inclusivity is reflected in its status as a Sekolah Berintegrasi. It accommodates students with special needs. This fosters a supportive learning environment. SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan started on January 4, 1999. While waiting for its own building to be completed, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan temporarily used SMK Sungai Besi’s building. This lasted until June 6, 1999. The school’s location was originally a Golf Driving Range. It was later handed over to the Ministry of Education Malaysia as an educational reserve.

The first group of students consisted of only 278 students. These students were male and female from various races. The number of students increased from year to year. By 2001, the student population had increased to 1800. There were 108 teachers and 15 support staff.

Interestingly, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan got its name from its location. It is in the Bandar Tasik Selatan housing area in Kuala Lumpur. The students come from areas around the school. These areas include Bandar Tasik Selatan housing, Police Quarters Desa Tasik and Kem Sungai Besi.

Since January 2000, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan has offered special education programs. Currently, 10 teachers manage students with learning disabilities. There are around 51 students with learning disabilities and 10 students with hearing problems.

From a co-curricular perspective, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan has achieved several successes. This is especially true in field hockey, taekwondo and uniformed units. All students are required to join PKBM. This is the first single uniformed unit in Malaysia approved by the Ministry of Education Malaysia. This started in 2002. PKBM has achieved several successes at the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and national levels.

SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan also has a female dormitory block. It began operating on March 1, 2002. Around 102 female students from Forms 1, 2 and 3 of the Religious Stream class were placed in this hostel. The Religious Stream Hostel has been upgraded to accommodate Forms 4 and 5 students.

SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan’s dedication to quality education has made it a beacon of learning. It is a place where students are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. The school actively promotes extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to participate in sports, clubs and societies. This fosters teamwork and leadership.
