Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda opened December 1 1994. It began admitting students November 30 1994. There were 384 Form 1 students and 166 Form 2 students. They registered at this coeducational school. The school building was not finished yet. All school administration was at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tasek Utara. School management moved to the new building April 17 1995. The Johor Bahru District Public Works Department approved this. Only the Amanah and Bakti blocks could be used then. Science and life skills were taught in classrooms. Science labs and life skills workshops were still being built.
SK Kompleks UDA and SK Bandar Uda 2 are the two main feeder schools. Students lived in Bandar Baru UDA Taman Skudai Kanan Kampung Skudai Kiri Kampung Muafakat and Kempas. The families of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda students had different socio economic backgrounds. The school is surrounded by two story terrace houses to the east. Jalan Padi Mahsuri and the SBBU building are to the west. Two and a half story terrace houses are to the south. Masjid Jamek and Sekolah Agama BBU are to the north. Transportation and public amenities are easily available. This makes the school’s location strategic.
The project cost about RM3.8 million. It was built under the World Bank loan project. Utama Jurusan Sdn Bhd was the contractor. Construction started in July 1993. The school is at Jalan Padi Ria 1 BBU. It covers 5.1174 hectares which is 12 acres. There are two four story buildings. These are blocks A and B. There is the Principal’s office and the Senior Assistant’s office. There are 24 classrooms a staff room and a meeting room. You will also find a guidance and counseling room and a supervisor’s room here. A staff development room prayer room health room resource center cooperative and general stores are also in these blocks. There are two story stores too. Block Cekap is for pure science labs. Block Dedikasi also serves this purpose. There are also integrated living skills workshops KMT and ERT. Not to forget the art education room. There is an agricultural science lab unit a pump unit and a Tenaga Nasional Berhad Sub Station. A canteen completes the picture.
Block E a three story block was built in 2002. This was to accommodate the growing number of students. It houses six classrooms for more comfortable learning. There is also a computer block for the convenience of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda citizens. A surau was built at the end of 2005. It is next to block D.
Construction of the hall began in 1998. Tn Hj Md Noor bin Awang the former president of the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda PIBG started it. Datuk Samsol Bari bin Jamali continued this effort until today. Construction of the school’s multipurpose hall began in June 2006. AJK Dewan discussed it for the first second and third times. Soil testing cost RM2800.00. Measuring building lines cost RM1500.00 for the first and second times. Planting building piles cost RM25000.00. The hall is used for club activities and official assemblies. It was expected to be completed in May 2007. Due to lack of budget it was completed at the end of 2007. Doors and windows were not ready. The budget was available. Floors and roofs were still being worked on. Contributions were still being sought.
Since 2009 Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda has been operating for 13 years. Many changes have made the school more brilliant and comfortable. It competes with surrounding schools. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda has achieved success in academics and co curricular activities. They have raised the school’s name. The vision of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Uda is strong and great by 2009. This has been the focus in emphasizing co curricular activities. It is based on the aspirations and desires of our country Malaysia.
