Echoes of history whisper from these walls. Welcome to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Tentera Darat. This isn’t just any school. It’s a living testament to the dedication of educators and the resilience of students.

Established in 1963 initially as Sekolah Cantoment it served the children of military families stationed at Kem Sungai Besi. Imagine the scene sixty years ago. Sixty children of soldiers crammed into existing schools. A temporary solution was found. A makeshift classroom within the army camp itself. Mr Mohd Basar Bin Mohamad the first headmaster bravely took on the challenge.

In 1964 a new building opened. Two single-story blocks housed thirteen classrooms. A headmaster’s office and general office completed the complex. Growth was swift. The school’s official name changed to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Besi Kem in 1981 reflecting its role and location. Another name change followed in 1981 to its present name Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Tentera Darat.

The story of SK Pengkalan Tentera Darat is one of continuous improvement. A canteen was built in 1971 followed by a fence and gate in 1976. The construction of a storage facility in 1978 was crucial for housing textbooks and sports equipment. This ensured that despite the school’s early resource constraints students had access to essential learning materials and opportunities.

A significant upgrade came in 1983. A two-story building emerged. It included nine more classrooms a larger headmaster’s office administrative spaces and a school library. Teachers had their own rooms and there were prayer rooms. Separate restrooms for students and teachers added to the improved facilities. A medical room was also included.

By 1989 the school celebrated its 25th anniversary a silver jubilee. A four-story building was completed to cope with the growing number of students. This impressive structure housed twenty classrooms an open-air hall a textbook store and facilities for physical education.

The school continued to evolve. A computer lab and a preschool were added in 2002. Two new buildings replaced older structures in 2003 further improving the facilities for students and staff. A new mosque built that same year thanks to the Wilayah Development Department could accommodate 150 worshippers. A second preschool building opened in December 2010.
