Established as a Sekolah Kebangsaan it has shaped young Malaysian minds. Its nurturing environment is evident in its dedicated staff and curriculum.
In 2009, Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda had 801 students. There were 441 boys and 360 girls. It also had 60 teachers. Today the school has a diverse learning community. There are 645 pupils and 51 teachers.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda was built in 1938. It opened in 1939. It was known as Princess Road School. Later the school was split into two sessions. These were Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda 1 and 2. In the early 80s the schools merged. It combined with Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda which was beside Masjid Pakistan Chow Kit Road. The school became co-educational. Then it was renamed Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda.
In 1976 and 1977 the school was used as Maktab Perguruan Harian Ibukota. It was a teacher’s training college. But it only lasted two years. It then became a school again.
In 1996, the school became a single-session school. A new building was added. Also a canteen, a computer lab and an open hall were added.
In 2009, two new four-story buildings were added. Now Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Raja Muda has six blocks. These are Blocks A, B, C, D, E and F.
