The school was recognised for achievements. Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Sunway Semenyih was established on July 7 2012. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education. That was Yang Berhomat Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi. SKBSS began operations on January 12 2015. It started with 34 teachers one support staff member and 372 students. These students were in Years 2 3 and 4.

SKBSS is named after the adjacent housing estate Bandar Sunway Semenyih. The surrounding residential area includes Taman Desa Mewah. It has approximately 8000 residents. The school follows a modern concept. It is located in Mukim Semenyih in the Hulu Langat district. The building of this school reduced congestion. It helped Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Rinching and Sekolah Kebangsaan Semenyih.

Puan Rohaya binti Mad Wazir was appointed as the Care Taker. She managed the early stages of the school’s opening. Abdul Aziz bin Haji Ashaari handed over the building. He was the Deputy Secretary of the Senior Division. He worked in the Education Development Division. He also worked for the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

Faiza binti Ahmad Fauzi designed the school logo and flag. She was a teacher at SKBSS. Azah Halimah binti Ramli wrote the lyrics for the school song. She was a teacher at SK Semenyih.

Adonie binti Adnan was the headmaster from 2015 to 2017. Siti Rozita binti Yahya served from 2017 to 2019. Sabarudin bin Abu Bakar was headmaster from 2019 to 2021. Samsul Irwan bin Sanusi has been in service since 2021.

The school has achieved success in robotics competitions. They received certificates and curriculum awards. They have also had UPSR achievements. They have won co-curricular awards. One student Hayl Arsyad bin Azrul Izham received the Rambu Biru award. This was from the Selangor State Scout Association. They participated in the National TKRS Camp in 2018. It was held at the Melaka Co-Curriculum Center. They secured second place in the Semenyih Zone Storytelling Competition. This was for Stage 1 in 2019. They achieved third place in the MSSD HL Cricket in 2023 and 2024. They were runners-up in the KATMO Hulu Langat Cricket in 2023.
