Established amidst challenging times the school faced closure during the Japanese occupation. After the war founder Chen Hua spearheaded its remarkable reconstruction. This act of determination laid the foundation for Yuk Chai’s enduring legacy.
Yuk Chai’s journey wasn’t without its trials. Relocations became necessary. First a mining company’s land acquisition forced a move. Then urban development necessitated another. Each move presented obstacles yet the school community persevered. They even used materials from old buildings to construct classrooms in Kampung Chempaka. The 1980s saw Yuk Chai finally settle in Taman Megah. A massive building project ensued. It resulted in a modern three-story building with 15 classrooms and a canteen. Further expansion followed in response to a rising student population reaching 1500. The dedication to providing quality education is undeniable.
The school’s growth continued into the 1990s and beyond. A new administration block was added alongside more classrooms. By 1993 nearly 2240 students were enrolled necessitating further building projects. The addition of a science block and the integration of digital boards showcased Yuk Chai’s commitment to progress.
By the 2000s Yuk Chai was thriving with approximately 3200 students. Further financial support from the Ministry of Education led to more building expansions. The school consistently adapted to its growing needs. Air conditioning was added to the hall and new facilities such as a basketball court were constructed.
Celebrations marked Yuk Chai’s 80th anniversary in 2019. A carnival highlighted the vibrant community spirit of the school. Even during the pandemic an online talent show kept students connected. Fundraising efforts consistently supported these developments. Even today the school continues to evolve.
