In 1927 a small group gathered. They sought a new beginning. This is the Second Baptist Church of Highlands. Their first meeting took place in the old Taylor School. 121 people answered a divine call. They left their former church. They founded a new congregation.

The Second Baptist Church of Highlands was born. It wasn’t always here on Wallisville Road. For its first year it met in the Taylor School. Then it found a permanent home. The former St Paul’s Methodist Church became its sanctuary. This was in downtown Houston.

For decades Second Baptist Church of Highlands grew. It served the community. In 1957 a significant move occurred. The church relocated to its current location. The westward expansion of Houston demanded it. They wanted to reach more families. This new site offered 25 acres. It was at Woodway and Voss.

The church continued to expand. It became a multi-site megachurch. The Second Baptist Church of Highlands now has multiple campuses across the city. It broadcasts services internationally. It supports a K-12 school. It offers various community programs. It even includes a free automotive repair service for single mothers. The Second Baptist Church of Highlands stands as a testament to faith and community outreach. Its impact stretches far beyond these walls. It truly embodies its mission to change lives. It continues to grow and serve. It remains a cornerstone of the Highlands community.
