Did you ever hear of a church with multiple locations? Second Baptist Church Heights in Houston is one of six campuses of Second Baptist Church. This sprawling network of faith began humbly in 1927. A group of 121 people gathered at the old Taylor School in downtown Houston, laying the foundation for what would become a megachurch. Second Baptist Church Heights shares its history with this original congregation. The church’s commitment to growth and outreach is evident in its expansion. The first permanent location was the former St. Paul’s Methodist Church. In 1957, the church moved west to its current main location, now known as the Woodway Campus. This move was a strategic decision to serve the burgeoning population in west Houston. The church continued to grow, adding campuses like Second Baptist Church Heights to reach more people. Second Baptist even launched media ministries. Weekly television broadcasts began in 1979, followed by radio and eventually international broadcasts. In 2024, leadership transitioned from Dr. Ed Young, who served for 46 years, to his son, Dr. Ben Young. This transition marks a new chapter for Second Baptist Church, including Second Baptist Church Heights. The church’s impact extends beyond Sunday services. Second Baptist Church has established a school, fitness centers, bookstores, and even a café. It demonstrates a commitment to serving the community in various ways.
