Considering a visit to Sebolido? This Portuguese village is part of Penafiel. It has a rich history and beautiful landscapes.

Sebolido is located on the right bank of the Douro River. It is about 20 km from the main part of Penafiel. In 2021, Sebolido had a population of 823. Its area spans 5.54 square kilometers. This results in a population density of 148.6 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The area’s settlement predates Portugal’s nationhood. References from the 12th century mention its surroundings. However, Sebolido became a parish relatively recently. This happened after Pedorido fell apart. Pedorido’s main part was across the Douro River. It is hard to distinguish the histories of Canelas and Sebolido. They were once a single parish.

The landscape of Sebolido features large hills. The summit is called Boneca. This name refers to an ancient anthropomorphic sculpture. It may also refer to a megalith. The terrain was ideal for defense. The name Sebolido comes from the Latin word “caeppula”. This evolved into “caepullitu” or “caepolletu”. These terms describe a place with plants similar to onions.

Sebolido is linked to Count D. Ufo Ufes. He was the captain-general of Vieira and governor of Viseu. D. Ufo was the father of Santa Senhorinha de Bastos.

Sebolido offers several notable landmarks. The Igreja de São Paulo is a main church. There is also the Capela da Senhora do Monte. Other points of interest include the Cruzeiro de Sebolido and a fountain. The Casa da Rocha is another site. You can enjoy scenic views from the Miradouro do Ribeiro do Couço. Serra da Boneca and Fragas da Abitoeira are also worth seeing.

On the road from Porto to Entre-os-Rios, find the Viewpoint of Sebolido. It sits on a small hill. A fence protects it. It provides stunning views of the Douro River.

Sebolido is southwest of Penafiel in the Porto district. It is 27 km from Porto. Aveiro is 58 km away. Braga is 60 km from here. Vila Real is 62 km away. Viseu is 63 km from Sebolido.

Visiting Sebolido offers a blend of history and natural beauty. From its ancient origins to its scenic views, Sebolido is a unique place.
