Dive into a world where art meets the ocean’s soul right here at Sea Rhythms. This isn’t just a sculpture it’s a portal. It transports you to the depths of San Diego’s vibrant underwater realm.

Sea Rhythms is a creation of Terry Thornsley. He is an artist who captured the essence of his own diving experiences. Terry’s journey began at 14 when he became a certified SCUBA diver off Point Loma in 1972. Little did he know that this early encounter with the kelp beds would inspire his artistic endeavors decades later.

Fast forward 30 years and Thornsley created this bronze masterpiece for San Diego International Airport. Sea Rhythms offers visitors a glimpse into the underwater beauty of San Diego.

The Port District selected Sea Rhythms from 557 proposals. This 26-foot tall sculpture uses bronze and copper. Find it in the Market Place Rotunda beyond security in the New West Terminal.

Thornsley wanted to share his diving experiences. He wanted to bring the magic of local waters to those visiting San Diego.

Sea Rhythms embodies the artist’s passion. It captures his deep connection to the marine environment. As you gaze upon this sculpture imagine yourself submerged beneath the waves. Envision the dance of sunlight through kelp forests. Hear the subtle symphony of marine life. This artwork serves as a reminder of the ocean’s delicate beauty. It is a call to protect and preserve its wonders for generations to come.
