Stepping onto the volcanic soil of Efate Island, one can almost feel the tremors of creation beneath their feet. Here in Port Vila, amidst the vibrant tapestry of Ni-Vanuatu culture, stands the SDA Reform Church. The SDA Reform Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to a faith journey, a beacon of hope established in 2002. The story begins with a family from Australia. They visited Vanuatu for a holiday in 2002. On Sabbath, they attended an independent church in Sorovanga. After the service, they shared the message of the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement. This chance encounter sparked a flame that spread through the islands. Missionaries were dispatched from Australia, and soon, the first three converts were baptized. The SDA Reform Church in Vanuatu began its journey. From this small beginning, the church blossomed. It expanded to four other islands. Churches were built, and communities embraced the faith. On Efate Island alone, two churches serve the community. One is conveniently located near the airport at Pladinier Estate, a mere four minutes away. The other is situated on Eratap Road, a scenic 20-minute drive from Port Vila town on the way to Teuoma. Even in the face of adversity, the church remains steadfast. In the first quarter of 2018, the Port Vila church showcased its resilience. The Sabbath School leader initiated a program to involve every member. It commenced with youth and children’s activities and concluded with a program for the fathers. This vibrant community is actively involved in spreading its message and strengthening its bonds. The church has been a beacon of hope and resilience, fostering a sense of community. It continues to serve as a spiritual home for many on Efate Island and beyond.
