Have you ever heard of Scout Place? It’s a small park on River Terrace, right behind me. Most visitors here rush to the nearby Kangaroo Point Cliffs and overlook this little piece of history. This is where, in 1984, a plaque was unveiled to celebrate 75 years of Scouting in Queensland. It was a major event, with the Lord Mayor of Brisbane himself, Alderman W. C. R. (Roy) Harvey, presenting it to the community. Scout Place also houses a statue dedicated to the 1988 World Expo in Brisbane, which symbolizes the saluting Scout. You might not have heard of this place, but it is a quiet little park, full of meaning for its visitors, most of whom have had a part in the Scout movement in Queensland, and who come here to remember what it means to be a Scout.
