Scotstoun Stadium first opened its gates in 1915 as the Scotstoun Showgrounds. It was initially a venue for agricultural shows, developed by the Glasgow Agricultural Society. But its destiny lay in the world of sports. Over the years, it evolved, becoming a beloved sporting ground. In 2008, a significant transformation began. A £17.5 million renovation breathed new life into the stadium. Scotstoun Stadium emerged, boasting state-of-the-art facilities, including an indoor 100-metre sprint track and a resurfaced outdoor 400-metre track. The stands were expanded, increasing the capacity for rugby union matches to an impressive 9,708. In 2009, the Glasgow Warriors rugby team made Scotstoun Stadium their training base. They began playing their home games here in 2012. From 2012 to 2015, the stadium proudly hosted the Scotland Sevens. This was the Scottish leg of the IRB Sevens World Series, before it moved to France. Scotstoun Stadium has also served as a training venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It is also home to Victoria Park City of Glasgow Athletics Club and Hyndland RFC. Today, Scotstoun Stadium stands as a testament to Glasgow’s sporting spirit.
