The scent of freshly milled flour. A ghostly aroma clinging to the very bricks of this building. This is the Schütt Mühle.

The Schütt Mühle in Berlin has a rich history. It began in 1875. Baker Friedrich Wilhelm Schütt founded the F W Schütt Steam Mill. The management decided on a complete rebuild in 1883. This marked the start of Berlin’s largest grain mill expansion. It was built in several phases under mill builder C Ehrenberg. The U-shaped mill included a six-part steam mill. There was a boiler and engine room. Grain and flour stores were located by the Spree River. A management building was added in 1886. Another storage building was completed in 1888.

Kurt Kampffmeyer took over the mill in 1922. He modernized it. He added a cleaning system in 1924. A grain silo was built between 1926 and 1927. This was expanded in 1934. Bombing raids in 1944 damaged the mill. Post-war reconstruction started after 1945. The administration building was rebuilt between 1959 and 1961. This was done in the historical style. The site was given up in 1986.

The administration building still stands. It is a three-story brick structure. It features terracotta decor. The entrance has a stately portal. The F W Schütt emblem is above the entrance. Today the building is used by businesses such as FOCUS Teleport. The building is protected as a historical monument. The tower from 1939/40 is also protected.

The Schütt Mühle stands as a testament to Berlin’s industrial past. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a story whispered on the wind. A story of innovation. A story of resilience. It’s a story that continues to shape Berlin’s landscape. It’s a story of flour and hard work. A story of this remarkable Berlin mill.
