Schule Ohkamp

Nestled in the green heart of Fuhlsbüttel, Schule Ohkamp has seen remarkable transformations. It began in the 1950s as a branch of Schule Ratsmühlendamm. The school blossomed into a comprehensive institution, serving elementary, middle, and high school students. The 1990s brought declining enrollment, shrinking Schule Ohkamp to a two-stream elementary school. The abundance of space allowed for a partnership with the Hamburger Schulverein. This led to an after-school program right on the school grounds. The closure of Flughafenstrasse school in 2005/6 brought renewed growth. Schule Ohkamp expanded to a three-stream school with nearly 300 students. The expansive green area provided ample room for their activities. In 2013, with Hamburg’s introduction of all-day childcare, Schule Ohkamp embraced this model. They became a full-day elementary school. Since 2017, Hamburger Kinderhafen has been their childcare partner. Today, Schule Ohkamp thrives with over 400 students. They have three to five classes per grade. They also have three preschool classes and an international preparatory class. Schule Ohkamp intentionally avoids specializing in a single educational focus. They believe in providing a well-rounded education. This approach helps meet the needs of each child. Their main objective is nurturing responsible, socially conscious, and independent individuals. They encourage methods like social competency training and off-site learning. They also use standard learning assessments. These methods help understand the diverse needs of the children.
